In this post I will be discussing some of the font choices in motion graphics and how they effect the conventions of similar motion graphics. I will discuss how each font works, or what kind of video style I would have to use. A big part of a motion graphic is the text used to explain the points of the video. For my video it is especially important as it helps explain some of the main point of my video. This means the readability of my type is especially important, as the viewer needs to be able to read the text quickly and easily.
PT Sans Caption is the font choice above. This sans serif is a very suitable font as it has good readability but also follows with the simple line choices of my illustrations. It also follows the conventions of normal motion graphics fonts choices.
Pacifico is the font above. This script font, is on the border of readability as some of the letters used sometimes won't be easily recognisable. It could be used in situations when I could use contrast with type by using sans serif with this style of type.
This is Gobold bold. It is a sans serif font using all capital letters. This is easily readable but also legible as you can scan read it very quickly following the conventions of a motion graphics.
This is Team Viewer 9. It is sans serif typeface designed to look like cut out letters from a newspaper or magazine. This really doesn't follow any conventions of a motion graphic as it isn't isn't readable, or legible. This really wouldn't be able to be quickly read and for this reason I won't be using the font for my product.
This is Helvetica. It is a sans serif font that is clean, legible and stylish. The smooth curves and straights of the letters compliment the style of the graphic. This bold version of the font is easy to read, even when it is only on the screen for a very short time, which is useful in fall moving, fluid motion graphics.
This is papyrus. It is a script, has a worn edge around each character. The readability is not great as the characters are too thin and cannot be read quickly. Also reading large amounts of text in this font would be difficult not allowing legibility.
This is Comic Sans. It is a sans serif, with rounded edges giving it a soft and cuddly outlook. It is a childish font which will not fit with my clean and professional motion graphic, which will not be featured in a child like environment. Therefore I will not be using this typeface in my work.
This is Edo SZ. This is a script looks like use of ink and brush to create the lettering. This is not easily readable and large amounts of text in this font is no where near legible. I will definitely not be using this font in my work as it doesn't follow motion graphic conventions.
